State Veterinary Surgeons Launch Token Strike Over Service Constitution Dispute

The State Veterinary Surgeons’ Association has launched a token strike today (June 9), commencing at 6:00 a.m., in protest over several unresolved issues.

Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday (June 8), the Association’s Chairman, Dr. Upul Ranjith Kumara, stated that the strike was initiated in response to alleged continued attempts by the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture to undermine the government’s efforts to establish a separate service constitution for veterinary surgeons.

Dr. Kumara emphasized that the strike would result in the disruption of services at all government veterinary offices across the country.

In addition, veterinary services provided by the Department of National Zoological Gardens, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, animal quarantine stations at ports and airports, and local government institutions are also expected to be affected.
