Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has urged the government to take immediate action to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country’s sugar industry.
Speaking to the media, MP Karunanayake emphasized that the government should focus on revitalizing the industry through greater private sector participation.
He further stated that the UNP-led opposition is committed to strengthening and advancing the national economy.
Highlighting the importance of the private sector’s contribution, Karunanayake noted that the public sector cannot be developed by imposing excessive taxes on the private sector and creating a burdensome environment for investors.
