Two young Swiss gymnasts of Sri Lankan heritage have expressed their ambition to represent Sri Lanka in international gymnastics, following a meeting with Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Soleil Nadinya Tauscher, the reigning Under-11 Swiss National Champion, and her younger sister Luna Durangi Tauscher met the Sports Minister on Wednesday (22), where they shared their desire to compete under the Sri Lankan flag in future international competitions.
The sisters, who are members of the Genève Gymnastique Artistique club in Switzerland, were born to German father Gerhard Tauscher and Sri Lankan mother Luvini Ranasinghe.
Despite being only 10 years old, Soleil has already made a name for herself in Swiss gymnastics after winning the Under-11 title at the Swiss National Championships 2026. Her younger sister, eight-year-old Luna, has also shown impressive performances and is regarded as one of the country’s promising young gymnasts.
During the meeting, the sisters said they hoped to use their talents to bring recognition to Sri Lanka on the international stage through artistic gymnastics.
Minister Gamage welcomed their interest in representing Sri Lanka and assured the young athletes that the Ministry of Sports would provide the necessary support to facilitate their future participation in international competitions.
The meeting was attended by the athletes’ parents and senior officials of the Ministry of Sports, reflecting growing efforts to encourage talented athletes of Sri Lankan origin living overseas to compete for the country.
