Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) to Contest Local Government Elections Independently

The Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), an ally of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), is preparing to contest the upcoming local government elections under its own symbol.

MP Palani Digambaram, a senior member of the TPA, confirmed to the Daily Mirror that the alliance intends to proceed with this plan. He explained, “We will have a dialogue with the SJB initially and see how many slots we can secure for local bodies in districts like Badulla. However, the issue is that the SJB tends to field its own organisers as candidates, which could limit opportunities for our alliance.”

Digambaram further noted that if the SJB leadership does not respond favorably, the TPA may choose to contest the elections independently. He added that the TPA believes it may have a better chance of electing more of its members to local bodies by going solo in districts like Badulla.
