Former UNP Deputy Leader, MP Ravi Karunanayake, warned that the Central Bank is currently operating in an unaccountable manner, which he described as a serious concern.
Speaking to the media, he said that this situation must be corrected immediately and noted that he had already raised the issue in Parliament.
MP Karunanayake questioned the extent to which the current form of Central Bank independence truly serves the country’s interests. He alleged that the institution now functions without accountability to anyone, calling for urgent reforms.
He emphasized that economic management should be aligned with national priorities — ensuring that policies are affordable, relevant, and beneficial to the people.
