Three suspects, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Dan Priyasad, the convenor of the “Nawa Sinhale National Movement” and a prominent political activist.
The suspects were taken into custody for allegedly providing information to the gunmen responsible for Priyasad’s killing. Meanwhile, six police teams have been deployed to investigate the shooting.
Police suspect the murder was orchestrated by associates of the notorious organized criminal and large-scale drug trafficker known as ‘Kanjipani Imran’.
Priyasad succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized following a shooting incident at the ‘Laksanda Sevana’ Housing Complex in Wellampitiya around 9:10 p.m. last night (22). He was initially admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with gunshot wounds but passed away while receiving treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Reports indicate that Priyasad was shot four times—twice in the chest and twice in the shoulder. Another individual who sustained minor injuries during the attack is currently receiving medical treatment.
Preliminary police investigations reveal that the shooting took place during a party. Two individuals, who arrived on a motorcycle, reportedly opened fire using a pistol before fleeing the scene.
Wellampitiya Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
