Trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) was temporarily halted today after the S&P SL20 index declined by more than 5% compared to the previous closing level.
The trading suspension was triggered under the Exchange’s circuit breaker mechanism, which is activated to curb excessive volatility and allow investors time to assess market conditions.
According to the CSE, regular trading is scheduled to resume at 10.01 a.m., 30 minutes after the halt.
The sharp decline comes amid heightened market uncertainty, with investors closely monitoring both domestic and global developments.
