The Sri Lanka Police continue to carry out traffic operations islandwide as part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national initiative, with efforts to ensure safer and cleaner roads.
Traffic Regulation Measures
A noticeable change has been observed among three-wheeler drivers, who are now voluntarily removing additional accessories attached to their vehicles. This comes after police operations targeting unsafe modifications and accessories on buses, three-wheelers, and other vehicles began in Colombo and other areas.
The operations aim to enhance road safety without causing inconvenience to passengers.
- A three-month grace period has been granted to private bus owners for removing unnecessary accessories, following discussions between private bus owners’ unions and the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).
- Meanwhile, shop owners selling decorative vehicle accessories report a significant decline in sales.
Clean-Up Efforts
In addition to traffic operations, the Habaraduwa Pradeshiya Sabha has removed signage that caused traffic congestion along the access road to the popular Unawatuna-Yaddehimulla tourist area.
As part of the initiative, a cleaning campaign was organized this morning (09) in the Moratuwa-Soysapura area by the Moratuwa Municipal Council.
The ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ program aims to promote road safety, reduce congestion, and foster a cleaner and more organized environment across the country.
