The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) has announced new restrictions on the transport of mineral sand, following a recent accident involving a school van and a tipper truck carrying sand.
According to Director General Deepani Weerakoon, mineral transportation will now be prohibited during morning hours and after school hours to ensure the safety of students.
She further stated that vehicles transporting minerals must be parked in designated areas with adequate road space during these restricted periods.
