Trump Announces 15% Global Tariff After Supreme Court Blocks Earlier Import Taxes

February 23, 2026

Donald Trump said Saturday he plans to impose a 15% global tariff on all goods entering the United States, escalating his trade measures just one day after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down his previous import tax policy.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced the higher levy, revising an earlier proposal to replace the invalidated tariffs with a 10% blanket duty on imports.

The move follows Friday’s Supreme Court ruling that Trump had exceeded his legal authority by unilaterally imposing sweeping tariffs worldwide — a decision that dealt a significant blow to his trade agenda.

Trump, who has long defended tariffs as a way to protect American industries and reduce trade deficits, criticized the ruling and signaled he would pursue alternative avenues to reinstate broad import taxes.

However, it remains unclear under what legal authority the new 15% tariff would be implemented or when it would come into effect.
