U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will raise the temporary global tariff rate on imported goods from 10% to 15%, following a ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States against tariffs he had imposed under an economic emergency law.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the increase would take effect immediately.
“I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on countries, many of which have been ‘ripping’ the US off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level,” he wrote.
The announcement comes amid renewed debate over U.S. trade policy and its potential impact on global markets, with analysts warning the move could further strain international commercial relations.
