U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced a two-week suspension of American bombing and military operations against Iran, describing the move as part of a “double-sided ceasefire” aimed at securing a long-term peace agreement.
In a statement issued early Wednesday (8), Trump said the decision followed discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged a halt to planned military action.
The pause in strikes is conditional on Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
Trump stated that the United States has already achieved its military objectives and is now “very far along” in negotiations toward a broader peace deal with Iran and stability in the Middle East.
He also revealed that Washington has received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a workable basis for negotiations, with most key issues already agreed upon.
The two-week ceasefire period is intended to allow both sides to finalize the agreement.
Trump added that the decision reflects not only U.S. interests but also those of regional partners, expressing confidence that the long-standing conflict could soon reach a resolution.
