Trump Signs Executive Order Withdrawing U.S. from UN Human Rights Council

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has signed an Executive Order withdrawing the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and halting any future funding to the UN Relief and Works Agency for the Near East (UNRWA).

The White House stated that the UNHRC has failed to fulfill its intended purpose, arguing that the council has been misused by countries such as Iran, China, and Cuba, which have been able to protect themselves from scrutiny despite their poor human rights records.

Additionally, the White House criticized the UNHRC for its persistent bias against Israel, claiming that the council unfairly focuses on the country in a disproportionate manner during its proceedings.
