Two Killed as Cargo Plane Skids into Sea at Hong Kong Airport

October 21, 2025

Two airport staff members were killed early this morning when a cargo plane skidded off the runway and plunged into the sea at Hong Kong International Airport.

The Boeing aircraft, operated by Turkish cargo carrier ACT Airlines, skidded off the runway at around 3:50 a.m. local time while landing from Dubai and broke into two parts, officials reported.

“Unfortunately, there was an airport security patrol car on board at the time. The plane hit the patrol car and pushed it into the sea,” said Stephen Yew, Executive Director of Airport Operations at Hong Kong International Airport.

The two individuals on board the patrol car were killed in the accident.

Footage from the scene showed the plane partially submerged, with the tail section broken off. The front section of the aircraft, below the cockpit, also sustained significant damage.
