Donald Lu, United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and expressed the U.S.’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption initiatives.
Julie Chung, the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, shared on X that the U.S. delegation, which included representatives from the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, USAID, and the U.S. Treasury, congratulated President Dissanayake and his new administration.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in governance, agriculture, economic growth, and maritime security. Ambassador Chung emphasized the U.S.’s reaffirmed support for Sri Lanka’s reform agenda, particularly in combating corruption, and stressed the importance of engaging civil society and the private sector.
