Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake says that the outcome of the last presidential election could have been very different if Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa had not split into two parties.
In an interview with the website ceylonwire.lk, the MP described the split as a journey driven entirely by selfishness.
He added that regardless of which party contests an election with the expectation of victory, certain groups benefited from the division within the UNP.
The MP further noted that the selfish actions of one group ultimately led to an unexpected result.
