The Vehicle Importers’ Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) has confirmed that no official announcement has been made regarding the resumption of vehicle imports.
Prasad Manage, President of VIASL, highlighted the uncertainty plaguing the vehicle market, which has caused significant disruptions in buying and selling activities.
“The industry has been stagnant for 4-5 years, leading to a collapse in our sector. We need to resume imports urgently, starting with buses and lorries, followed by other vehicles in phases. However, the government has yet to make a decision,” he said.
Manage also urged vehicle owners not to sell their vehicles at reduced prices based on speculation, stressing that no timeline for import resumption has been announced.
“We call on the government to issue an official statement to ease public concerns and stabilize the market,” he added.
The ongoing uncertainty continues to impact the local vehicle industry, which has been grappling with restrictions for several years.
