The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for tomorrow (31), warning of increased heat levels in several provinces and districts.
According to the advisory, the heat index—the temperature felt on the human body—is expected to rise to the ‘Caution’ level in parts of the Northern, North-Central, Western, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
Under the ‘Caution’ level, prolonged exposure to heat may cause fatigue, while continued activity could lead to heat cramps. The public is urged to take necessary precautions, including: Staying hydrated
Taking breaks in the shade
Limiting strenuous outdoor activities
Checking on the elderly and the sick
Never leaving children unattended in vehicles
Wearing lightweight, white, or light-colored clothing
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated based on relative humidity and maximum temperature, reflecting the temperature felt on the body, rather than the actual maximum temperature. This forecast is generated using global numerical weather prediction models.
