The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning in parts of the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts today (03).
The advisory further notes the possibility of temporary localized strong winds during these thundershowers.
In light of these conditions, the public is strongly urged to take appropriate safety measures to mitigate the risk of lightning-related incidents. The Met Department recommends seeking shelter indoors and avoiding exposure in open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and water bodies during thunderstorms.
Additionally, the public is advised to refrain from using wired telephones and electrical appliances connected to the main power supply during thunderstorm activity.
