Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament that although compensation payments to those affected by Cyclone Ditva were expected to be completed by December 31, the process is still ongoing.
He has requested an urgent government statement under Standing Order 26(2) regarding the number of eligible individuals who have not yet received their compensation.
The MP further asked that the data be presented according to payment categories and on a district-wise basis to ensure transparency.
He also called for clarification on the main reasons for the delays, including verification setbacks, documentation issues, banking restrictions, or possible funding shortages.
