Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on BRICS member states to strengthen unity and take a leading role in promoting global development, peace and reform of the international system.
Addressing the first session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, today (12), Xi delivered a special speech titled “Shouldering the Responsibilities of the Current Era and Acting Boldly as a Leading Force.”
Xi noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of BRICS cooperation. He said the mechanism has expanded over the past two decades and continued to demonstrate renewed vitality.
According to Xi, BRICS has developed into a major cooperation platform for influential emerging markets and developing countries.
He urged member states to remain committed to the right direction and act as pioneers in promoting innovative development, maintaining peace and stability, encouraging mutual learning among civilizations and reforming global governance.
Xi also called for efforts to build a community with a shared future for humanity and guide the international order towards greater fairness and equality.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by BRICS over the past 20 years, he said unity and cooperation had remained the foundation of the mechanism’s development.
The Chinese President emphasized the importance of sincerity, seeking common ground while respecting differences, safeguarding each other’s core interests, strengthening understanding through dialogue and properly managing disputes.
China will assume the BRICS chairmanship next year and host the 19th BRICS Summit. Xi said China would work with all parties to build consensus and usher in the third “Golden Decade” of BRICS cooperation, with the aim of creating a future of shared prosperity and progress.
