An academic has revealed that around 1.2 million households in Sri Lanka are headed by women, with the number gradually increasing due to the country’s high divorce rate.
Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Kelaniya, highlighted the important role women play in Sri Lankan society during a panel discussion held on Friday.
She stressed the urgent need to empower women economically, noting that strengthening their financial stability is essential for the well-being of their families and the wider community.
