10% Discount Offered for ETC Users on Colombo–Katunayake Expressway

June 16, 2026

Drivers using the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway will now receive a 10 percent discount on the prescribed toll fee for every journey, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the Road Development Authority (RDA).

Dedicated ETC lanes have been established at expressway entry and exit points, enabling motorists to travel without delays associated with manual toll payments.

At present, the ETC facility is available at the Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya, Ja-Ela, and Katunayake interchanges. Authorities also plan to extend the service to the Kadawatha interchange for vehicles entering the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway via the Outer Circular Road.

Previously, motorists were required to visit designated locations to register for the ETC service, resulting in various inconveniences. To simplify the process, the Ministry and the RDA have introduced an online registration platform through the official website.

Vehicle owners can now register for the ETC service via the RDA’s website and collect their RFID tag from the nearest or most convenient interchange centre.

Users can subsequently top up their ETC accounts using bank cards through the website or the GovPay mobile application.

Once activated, toll charges will be automatically deducted from the ETC account when the vehicle exits the expressway, eliminating the need to stop and pay using cash or cards.

To ensure smooth operation of the system, the RDA has advised motorists to reduce their speed to 15 kilometres per hour when approaching ETC entry and exit gates and to maintain a distance of at least 20 metres from the vehicle ahead.

A special awareness programme was also conducted to educate drivers and passengers about the new service and its benefits.

Authorities emphasized that conventional cash and card payment methods will continue to be available alongside the ETC system for motorists who choose not to use the electronic payment facility.
