15 Sri Lankans Stranded in Myanmar to Be Rescued on May 6

Fifteen Sri Lankan nationals stranded in Meawaddy, Myanmar, are set to be rescued on May 6, 2025, in a coordinated operation led by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The rescue mission is being conducted under the direct instructions of the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, with the country’s diplomatic mission in Myanmar dispatching an official to Mae Sot, Thailand, today to oversee the operation.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Thailand is providing full logistical support, including airfare and local transportation for the individuals being repatriated.

The operation has been carefully coordinated through Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Governor of Tak Province and Thai Immigration authorities, ensuring the safe return of the stranded Sri Lankans.
