China and Sri Lanka have expressed their shared commitment to advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) following meetings between Sri Lankan leaders and a senior Chinese political advisor.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya met with Qin Boyong, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and executive vice chairperson of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Chinese media reported that China is eager to deepen its cooperation with Sri Lanka in the high-quality development of Belt and Road, under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ heads of state. The goal is to strengthen their strategic partnership based on mutual assistance and enduring friendship.
Sri Lankan leaders expressed gratitude to China for its continued support for the country’s economic and social development. They reiterated their commitment to adhering firmly to the one-China principle and emphasized their readiness to maintain high-level exchanges with China. Both nations expressed their desire to collaborate on building a high-quality Belt and Road, as well as to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
The Chinese delegation visited Sri Lanka from Monday to Thursday.
