Adani Power Considers Selling Bangladesh-Bound Electricity to Sri Lanka

Adani Power is reportedly exploring options to sell electricity from its Godda plant in Jharkhand, India, to neighboring countries, including Sri Lanka.

The Godda plant, with a 2×800 MW capacity, was initially established as a dedicated project to supply power to Bangladesh. However, due to political shifts in Bangladesh, the quantum of power supplied has been reduced.

To sustain operations, the Indian government recently permitted Adani Power to sell electricity in the domestic market, though establishing a new transmission network will be required, according to The Hindu Business Line.

Selling electricity from the Godda plant to Sri Lanka, however, will depend on securing approval from the Bangladesh government.

“I believe they will require the consent of the Bangladesh Power Development Authority for sales of power to Sri Lanka from the Godda plant,” said Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, in an interview with an Indian news outlet.
