The Sri Lanka Navy intercepted a suspect attempting to transport approximately 2,137 undersized conch shells during a search operation off Paramunai, Kalpitiya, on January 14, 2025.
The operation, conducted in the sea area of Paramunai, led to the apprehension of a 33-year-old suspect, identified as a resident of Mandalkuda in Kalpitiya.
The seized conch shells, along with the suspect and the dinghy used in the transport, have been handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources office in Puttalam for further legal action.
This interception highlights the Navy’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and protect marine resources.
