The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has announced an initiative to restore unused government vehicles currently lying idle in warehouses.
Minister Professor Chandana Abeyratne revealed that numerous vehicles from various departments are in poor condition, rendering them unusable. However, he noted that many of these could be repaired and reinstated for public service use.
The shortage of functional vehicles has significantly impacted the operations of several government institutions, the Minister explained. To tackle this issue, the ministry plans to identify vehicles that can be repaired, carry out the necessary maintenance, and return them to service.
Additionally, a special investigation will be conducted to ensure that government vehicles assigned to ministries and provincial councils are being utilized efficiently and appropriately.
This move is expected to enhance the operational capacity of government departments and improve public service delivery.
