A message displayed on the app informed US users of the ban, stating, “You can’t use TikTok for now,” and referencing the enacted legislation.
The message also mentioned hopes for a resolution, saying, “We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office.”
This follows warnings from TikTok that the platform would “go dark” on Sunday unless the Biden administration provided assurances against enforcing the ban.
President-elect Donald Trump has suggested he may grant TikTok a 90-day reprieve from the ban after taking office on Monday.
Users have reported that TikTok has been removed from the Apple and Google app stores in the US, and the platform’s website, TikTok.com, is no longer displaying videos.
