The Cabinet of Ministers has approved significant appointments to the Department of Civil Defence, and the Ministries of Lands and Agriculture.
- Retired Major General Palitha Fernando of the Sri Lanka Army has been appointed as the Director General of the Department of Civil Defence. The post had been vacant since 01 January 2025, and his appointment, approved on a contract basis, will be effective immediately for a period of one year.
- Chandana Saman Ranaweera Aarachchi, a Special Grade officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, has been named the Commissioner General of Lands. The decision reflects the operational needs of the Ministry of Lands.
- Mrs. E.R.P.S. Edirimanne has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Agriculture, replacing the outgoing Commissioner General, who retired this week.
These appointments aim to enhance the efficiency and leadership within the respective departments, ensuring continuity and progress in their operations.
