Committee Appointed to Review Certified Rice Prices

The Paddy Marketing Board has announced the formation of a committee to amend the certified prices of rice for the upcoming harvest season.

According to its chairman, Manjula Pinnalanda, the committee includes representatives from several key institutions, such as the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute and the Institute of Post Harvest Technology.

The committee’s primary task is to review the current pricing framework for paddy cultivation. Based on their findings, the certified purchase prices for rice this season will be determined.

In the previous Yala season, the certified prices were set at Rs. 105 per kilogram for Nadu rice, Rs. 115 per kilogram for Samba rice, and Rs. 130 per kilogram for Keeri Samba rice.

Meanwhile, the Paddy Marketing Board has confirmed that storage facilities for the Maha season’s harvest are fully prepared. The purchase of harvest stocks for the Maha season is scheduled to begin next month.
