The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reported that as of November 24, 2024, a total of 3,065 Sri Lankan nationals are on its non-detained docket with final orders of removal.
However, ICE noted that not all deportations can be carried out immediately due to legal and logistical challenges, such as asylum claims and lack of cooperation from foreign governments. The US expects all countries to verify citizenship, issue travel documents, and accept repatriation flights, but delays often occur.
ICE has designated 15 countries as uncooperative in accepting deported nationals, while 11 others are at risk of non-compliance. Sri Lanka is not on either list.
