Sri Lanka Reports 1,500 Leprosy Cases in 2024

The National Leprosy Eradication Programme has reported the detection of approximately 1,500 leprosy cases across Sri Lanka in the past year.

Dr. Nirupa Pallewatta, the program’s director, highlighted that the Western Province recorded the highest number of cases, accounting for 40% of the total.

Dr. Pallewatta also noted that the ongoing Leprosy Eradication Month has contributed to an increase in the identification of patients.
