The government has officially declared the certified prices at which the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) will purchase paddy from farmers, Agriculture Minister K.D. Lal Kantha and Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne announced at a special media briefing today (Feb. 5).
Following an evaluation of rice market trends and farmers’ production costs, the revised procurement rates are as follows:
🔹 Nadu paddy – Rs. 120 per kilogram
🔹 Samba paddy – Rs. 125 per kilogram
🔹 Keeri Samba paddy – Rs. 132 per kilogram
Minister Lal Kantha emphasized that only dry paddy will be purchased under this scheme, ensuring fair prices for farmers while maintaining stability in the rice market. The PMB is set to commence purchasing paddy at these rates immediately.
