President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced plans to introduce a National Tariff Policy and a new Customs Act aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s export industry.
Delivering the 2025 Budget Speech in Parliament, he outlined the government’s plan to implement a National Export Development Plan (2025–2029) to enhance the country’s capacity for large-scale exports of goods and services.
To support exporters, a simplified, transparent, and predictable tariff framework will be introduced under the National Tariff Policy, ensuring easier access to high-quality raw materials at an affordable cost.
The President also projected that Sri Lanka expects to generate USD 19 billion in export revenue this year.
Additionally, a new Customs Act is set to be introduced to increase trade efficiency and improve revenue collection, replacing the existing legislation. The drafting process for this new act is already underway.
