South Korea Donates Biomedical Engineering Equipment and Mobile Workshops to Sri Lanka’s Healthcare System

The Republic of Korea has officially handed over biomedical engineering equipment and eight fully equipped mobile workshops to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health, as part of a collaborative effort to enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure. The donation was made through the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).

The official handover ceremony, held today, was attended by Miyon Lee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Deputy Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, and Dr. Ha Il-Soo, President of KOFIH.

This donation is part of a $7.2 million biomedical engineering capacity-building project launched in 2019, aimed at boosting Sri Lanka’s ability to maintain and repair critical medical equipment. The mobile workshops will provide on-site repair and maintenance services, ensuring hospitals and clinics—especially in remote areas—have access to fully functional medical devices.

In her address, Ambassador Lee highlighted that “these biomedical engineering resources will significantly strengthen Sri Lanka’s healthcare system and reinforce the country’s ability to provide essential medical services effectively.”
