The Sri Lankan government is prioritizing the development of a national plan for fire services to enhance efficiency and address key challenges, Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, P. Ruwan Senarath, announced.
Speaking at a discussion at the Colombo District Secretariat with Fire Chiefs from across the country, Deputy Minister Senarath emphasized the urgency of gathering input from fire service officers and firefighters to expedite the plan’s formulation.
Fire service officers highlighted critical issues, including shortages in human resources, technical difficulties, and water supply problems. They also stressed the need for improved technical training and attention to service promotions to strengthen the sector.
