The Department of Meteorology has issued a heat advisory for residents in the Eastern, Northern, North-Western, and North-Central provinces, as well as the Monaragala district, warning of elevated temperatures expected tomorrow.
According to the Department, the heat index—the temperature felt on the human body due to the combined effects of heat and humidity—is forecast to rise to the ‘Caution Level’ in several areas.
“The Heat Index Forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature, and reflects the condition felt by the human body,” the Met Department explained in an official statement.
Authorities warn that prolonged exposure to the sun and engaging in outdoor activities may cause fatigue, and continued exertion could lead to heat cramps.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay well hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially during peak daytime hours.
