Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage has temporarily suspended the registration of Sri Lanka’s national motor sports association and appointed the Secretary to the Ministry as its Competent Authority.

The decision was announced through an extraordinary Gazette notification issued under Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, as amended.

According to the Gazette, the suspension aims to ensure the proper administration of the association and facilitate necessary reforms, including amendments to its constitution to bring it into line with the Sports Law.

The appointment of the Ministry Secretary as Competent Authority took effect on October 15, 2026.

The Competent Authority will oversee the association’s administrative affairs, complete the constitutional amendment process and conduct elections to appoint new office-bearers.

The Gazette further states that the Ministry Secretary will continue to manage the association’s affairs until new office-bearers are elected at an Annual General Meeting conducted in accordance with the amended constitution.
