Showery Conditions and Strong Winds Expected from June 10, Meteorology Department Warns

The Department of Meteorology has announced that showery conditions are expected to intensify in the southwestern region of the island starting from June 10, accompanied by strong wind gusts over both land and surrounding sea areas.

The public is advised to remain alert and pay close attention to future weather forecasts issued by the Department.

According to the forecast:

  • Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

  • Showers or thundershowers may occur at isolated locations in the Northern and Uva provinces during the afternoon or night.

In addition, fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.

The Department urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
