Deputy Minister of Housing T.B. Sarath visited several areas in the Northern and Eastern provinces to review progress under the government’s program to provide permanent housing for displaced families.
The government has allocated Rs. 2,500 million for the initiative, which aims to support 919,109 displaced individuals from 276,883 families. This includes 1,424 families in Jaffna and 29 families in Kilinochchi.
Construction of permanent housing has already commenced, with the Deputy Minister inspecting several ongoing projects during his visit.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Housing has proposed allocating additional funds for housing in Jaffna under the 2026 budget.
