French President Emmanuel Macron faced an unexpected roadblock in New York while attending the United Nations General Assembly, according to reports from foreign media.
The delay occurred when a New York road was temporarily closed to accommodate the motorcade of US President Donald Trump. Macron was returning from his speech at the 80th UNGA, where he announced France’s official recognition of the State of Palestine, when the road closure forced him to stop on the highway.
A video circulating on social media shows Macron and his security team stepping out of their vehicle and speaking with a police officer, who apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, Mr. President, I’m very sorry. All I know is that everything has stopped now. The reason is that a motorcade has arrived.”
Foreign media reported that Macron made phone calls to the US President from the street, quipping, “Guess I’m waiting on the street because everything has stopped for you.” After the US motorcade passed, the roads reopened, and Macron proceeded on foot toward the French Embassy. He walked for about half an hour, during which several onlookers gathered to take photos and greet him.
