The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that it will issue its decision on the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) proposal to increase electricity tariffs by the end of the second week of October.
The CEB submitted the proposal to the PUCSL on September 10, 2025, seeking a 6.8% tariff increase.
Following the submission, the PUCSL began gathering public feedback through public consultations, starting in the Eastern Province on September 18, 2025.
According to PUCSL Director of Communications Jayanath Herath, the Commission has received public input from eight provinces, with participation exceeding 500 individuals. The final consultation session will be held on October 8, focusing on the Western Province.
Herath said the PUCSL is currently reviewing all public comments alongside key factors such as the estimated cost of electricity generation, fuel procurement for power plants, distribution expenses, and revenue collection for debt repayment.
The Commission stated that, after evaluating all relevant considerations, the final report on the proposed electricity tariff revision will be released thereafter.
