The All Ceylon Egg Producers Association has announced a reduction of Rs. 10 in the local market price of eggs.
According to the Association’s Chairperson, Navod Sampath Bandara, the decision aims to dismantle the monopoly of large-scale egg producers and create a fairer market environment. He stated that, under the new pricing structure, a white egg will be sold at Rs. 18 and a red egg at Rs. 20.
However, Ajith Gunasekara, Chairman of the All Ceylon Poultry Traders Association, warned that reducing prices based solely on individual decisions—without a clear understanding of market trends—could be risky and unsustainable.
