Namal Rajapaksa Briefs Sumanthiran on Joint Opposition Rally Scheduled for November 21

November 15, 2025

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has held discussions with Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) General Secretary and former MP M. A. Sumanthiran, briefing him on the joint opposition rally planned for November 21.

In a post on X, Rajapaksa stated that he apprised Sumanthiran of the objectives of the upcoming rally, which is being organized by the opposition to protest what they describe as the National People’s Power (NPP) government’s failure to deliver on its promises.

While noting that ITAK will not be participating in the event, Rajapaksa said it was important to keep the party informed as a key opposition actor. “As a key opposition party, it’s important for us to keep them updated on the agenda and the critical issues we are addressing,” he wrote.

Rajapaksa further highlighted that both SLPP and ITAK share common ground on the need to conduct long-delayed provincial council elections, which have been repeatedly postponed under the current administration.

“These elections are essential for strengthening local governance, and it is vital that they proceed in accordance with the Constitution,” he added.
