The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has recorded the highest tax revenue collection in its history this year.
As of November 17, the IRD’s total revenue collection stands at approximately Rs. 2,002 billion, the department confirmed. In 2024, the IRD collected Rs. 1,942,162 million in taxes, while the total revenue for this year has reached Rs. 2,002,241 million—an increase of Rs. 60,079 million compared to last year.
Commissioner General of the IRD, R. P. H. Fernando, highlighted that this milestone represents a substantial contribution toward strengthening the government’s financial position.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs also reported surpassing its revenue target for 2025. As of November 12, Customs generated Rs. 2,117.2 billion, exceeding the year’s target of Rs. 2,115 billion.
These record collections from both the IRD and Sri Lanka Customs reflect a strong performance in revenue mobilization for the government this year.
