Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced.
According to the statement, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the steady deepening and diversification of cooperation between India and Australia over the past five years, following the elevation of their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020.
Prime Minister Albanese conveyed his sorrow and condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in India and expressed solidarity with India in the global fight against terrorism. The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening international counterterrorism efforts.
They also reviewed opportunities to further enhance bilateral cooperation across political and strategic relations, defence and security, energy, trade and investment, critical minerals, technology, mobility, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Regional and global issues of mutual concern were also discussed.
Noting that regular high-level interactions have greatly strengthened bilateral ties, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese reiterated their shared vision and pledged to elevate the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to even greater heights.
Prime Minister Modi is attending the G20 Summit from 21 to 23 November, marking a historic milestone as the first G20 summit to be hosted on the African continent. He is expected to discuss key issues of importance to India.
