The Department of Meteorology has announced that the deep depression southeast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a Cyclonic Storm named “Ditwah”, currently centered near latitude 6.9°N and longitude 81.9°E, close to the east of Pottuvil.
The system is expected to move north–northwestward in the coming hours.
Due to its influence, heavy rainfall and strong winds across the island are expected to persist over the next few days.
Intermittent showers and thundershowers will affect most parts of the country.

Very heavy rainfall above 200 mm is likely in Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western Provinces and the Trincomalee District.

Rainfall above 150 mm is expected in Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces and in the Badulla and Batticaloa Districts.

Rainfall above 100 mm is possible in other areas of the island.
Additionally, very strong winds of 60–70 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, may occur over most parts of Sri Lanka.
The public is advised to take all necessary precautions to minimize damage from heavy showers and strong winds.
