India has given a quick response by agreeing to deploy helicopters from its aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, currently docked in Colombo, to support Sri Lanka’s ongoing rescue and relief operations as Cyclonic Storm Ditwah brings severe weather across the island.
Earlier, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, said Sri Lanka had requested assistance from the Indian warship, including the use of its aircraft, to aid in relief operations. He confirmed that a formal request was submitted to the Indian High Commission in Colombo during a special media briefing.
