Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake today rejected a statement made by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, calling it “false” and “misleading.”
Speaking in Parliament, Karunanayake said the Prime Minister had incorrectly claimed that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) was under his purview during his tenure as Finance Minister in 2015.
“For the first time in history, the Central Bank was removed from the purview of my ministry in 2015,” he said. “The Prime Minister’s statement will prejudice the upcoming trial.”
Karunanayake’s remarks come amid heightened political attention on the 2015 bond scandal, as legal proceedings related to the case continue.
